Re-Sealing your shower cubicle

If you're going to have a go, get prepared!

1  Remove the old sealant. Use a putty knife or other sharp tool to pry up the old sealant. If necessary, use a heat gun to soften the sealant for easier removal. This process can take the longest. Be careful not to damage the surfaces outside of the area to be sealed

2  Clean the surfaces to be sealed using a scrubbing brush and dry thoroughly

3 Apply masking tape to the tray and the wall, between 6mm to 8mm from the edges to be sealed

4 Use a caulking gun and mould resistant silicone. Prepare your sealant, cut your sealant nozzle with a diagonal angle in proportion to the width of bead you wish to achieve

5 Apply the new sealant along the edges of the shower tray. Work slowly and make sure the sealant is even and covers the entire area

6 Smooth out the sealant. Use a wet finger to smooth out the sealant. Make sure the sealant is even and that there are no gaps.

7 Let the sealant dry. Depending on the type of sealant you’re using, it can take up to 24 hours for the sealant to dry completely.

8 Test the seal. Once the sealant is dry, you can test it by running a trickle of water around the edges of the shower tray. If the water is contained and doesn’t leak through, then the seal has been successful.

Resealing your shower tray can help prevent water damage and keep your bathroom floor dry. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, you can always hire a professional to do the job for you.
